The stone walls of 'Soleil Couchant', French for sleeping sun, bask in the last rays of the evening sun, a perfect end to a day exploring the countryside of Deux-Sèvres.
This area is the second sunniest place in France, after the Côte d'Azure.
Situated 5km/3 miles from Brioux-sur-Boutonne, 16km/10 miles from Melle & 45km/28 miles from Niort, you can relax in rural surroundings without being cut off completely from commerce or amenities.
For those of you who wish to potter about, explore the local markets and quiet lanes. The rolling countryside is ideal for cycling or walking, (We have a selection of bicycles to suit most ages).
'Soleil Couchant' has its own private courtyard garden so help yourself to herbs, or cook outdoors on the barbeque in our original bread oven area.
There is a 9m swimming pool to cool off in on those hot sunny days.
We are within easy reach of many superb places to visit including Gallo-Roman and archaeological sites, to animal attractions such as an open air zoo with european species including the impressive 'sanglia' ,or wild boars; or visit the 'hairy donkey' sanctuary at nearby Dampierre-sur-Boutonne where they are working to save this rare breed from extinction.
For the more energetic there is canoeing or horse riding in the locality.
